Windermere
Community Spirit in Hometown Windermere FL
By Mary Luster

In case you may have thought that renting a Windermere home or owning real estate Windermere FL would be as stuffy as living in an old aristocratic community, look again.  Although some mighty wealthy and successful people make their homes in Windermere, they still show up at the Easter Parade, Little League games, the Windermere Town Hall and Rotary Club meetings, and the Pancake Breakfast on the Fourth of July.  Windermere is an idyllic people place.  A grand array of friendly and happy people—from well-know families living at the Windermere Country Club to snowbirds walking the dirt roads—pitch in to make Windermere FL real estate a wonderful place to call home for people of all ages.

The Windermere community offers an old-town family appeal.  Or think of it as a high school campus where you know the entire student body by name.  They join together to solve problems affecting the neighborhoods in Windermere.  They volunteer for committees the likes of the Parks and Recreation Committee, the Town Council, the Tree Board Committee, Ad-Hoc committees, the Development Review Board, the downtown Business committee, the Traffic Committee, and the Long Range Planning Committee.  There’s a Pine Hill boys and Girls Club, a Toys for Tots drive and the Rotary Club’s annual charity fund-raising drive.

Camp Down is the site for the Rotary Club’s Annual Fun Festival on an April weekend.  Special events such as the World Class Wakeboarding Demonstration join with the traditional arts-and-craft booths, food, games, entertainment, and raffles to make it a refreshing community event.  A Bubbalou’s Bodacious BBQ and Boy Scout troops provide concessions and the elementary school runs a mighty fine carnival.

The Town Square is a popular place for community gatherings.  Folks come out for The Arbor Day Celebration and the Professional Over-40 Tree Climbing Demonstration, Fire and Police Appreciation Day, the 5K Run, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the Halloween Costume Parade and Festival.  The Town Hall is the community center for DARE graduations and Elder’s Luncheons.  Bike paths and pedestrian crosswalks winding through the town offer another way to meet and greet the neighbors.

The community newsletter, ‘Mere News, strives to keep everyone abreast of community announcements and upcoming events.  In an issue of ‘Mere News, residents can find out important information such as how to renew boat and tennis passes, how to help an orphaned eagle or owl, and what to do with bags of raked leaves in the fall.  Add the mayor’s dedication to sharing the happenings around town on his personal website at windermeremayor.com and you see the cooperation that makes the world go round in town.

Possibly residents have traveled the world, gleaning perspective.  Whatever the special ingredient is, this community seems to have it and welcomes newcomers to join the community spirit.  For real estate and rental assistance and information about golf properties and lakefront homes, contact Mary Luster at (407) 256-8857.
